Established by the European Aerospace and Defense Industries Association and the Aerospace Industries Association, the S3000L standard establishes specifications on the international procedure for Logistics Support Analysis (LSA). In its latest version, updated in 2014, ASD/AIA S3000L is intended to establish a common transatlantic specification between Europe and North America, involving manufacturers and customers in the industrial, aerospace, and defense sectors.
The objective is to establish a global specification describing the LSA process, which is one of the most important processes for achieving Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) requirements. S3000L defines the general requirements for integrated product support, configuration management, analysis activities, and the data model for the exchange of information governing LSA performance during the life cycle of any complex technical system. These systems typically have long lifetimes and require maintenance during their lifetimes, a typical example being aircraft maintenance.
The aim of these standards is to optimize and propose communication standards between different information systems. This standard allows the creation and management of the product over time, based on a consistent set of information related to the processes. Thus, the integration of this standard allows for the organization of actions in order to optimize the management of complex systems in operation.
Whether it is a question of information exchangeability, data durability, maintainability, or operational availability, the scope of this standard is very vast in terms of productivity levers.
What impact does this have on day-to-day operations?
For an SLI manager, the main objectives are to increase the lifespan of products and reinforce their availability in order to maximize efficiency. However, these missions are to be taken into account in a spectrum of maintenance cost reduction by anticipating the risks of obsolescence.
